Shamsul Arfeen Hashmi
Born in 1996 in Rahim Yar Khan, Shamsul Arfeen Hashmi has emerged as a prominent visual artist based in Lahore, Pakistan. After graduating from the National College of Arts (NCA) Lahore in 2019, majoring in painting, Hashmi has captivated audiences both locally and internationally with his distinct style and thought-provoking pieces. His work has been displayed in renowned galleries such as Return on Art Gallery in Vienna, Austria; Ejaz Art Gallery and O Art Space in Lahore; and Canvas Gallery in Karachi. Through these platforms, Hashmi has demonstrated his dynamic range and expressive creativity, solidifying his reputation in the contemporary art scene.
Hashmi’s impressive career has also been marked by his participation in the esteemed Arte Laguna Prize in Venice, Italy, showcasing his work alongside celebrated artists like Imran Qureshi, Damien Hirst, Sadequain, and Ismail Gulgee. Additionally, his recent exhibit at the Anima Mundi Art Festival in Venice in April-May 2024 further cemented his place in the global art community.
Beyond his accomplishments in visual art, Hashmi is a multifaceted talent, having received classical training in acting and singing. In 2019, he was honored with the Best Actor Award from the NCA Theatre Society, showcasing his versatility across artistic disciplines. His alma mater, Beaconhouse School System, recognized his contributions with a nomination for the Distinguished Alumni Award in 2023.
Looking ahead, Hashmi is preparing for his upcoming solo exhibition, Future Stars, featuring his work titled BAAH at The Holy Art Gallery in London. This highly anticipated show promises to showcase Hashmi’s unique voice, pushing boundaries and offering fresh perspectives on modern themes.
